It’s important to recognize movement at levels rather than inherently good or bad. Too advanced for or beyond the capacity of an individual can present issues. Moderately challenging for or just within the capacity of individual is great for building more strength and flexibility.
So with lumbar extension in question, increasing the capacity of the lower back is a viable option for anyone interested in building robustness to deal with high loads and movements outside of a neutral spine when it inevitably encounters us all in day-to-day life and sport.
Making the decision to fear a movement without context for capacity for yourself is likely a worse option than getting stronger at it for when you do find yourself in those movements outside of your control in daily life or sport.
I think it’s just a matter of what level of movement freedom and control you’d like for *yourself*. Again there’s levels to this. It’s important to know that your capacities are not the limits of others who do train certain movements, and at the same time that your capacities are not the standard for those who don’t train certain movements.
Happy training, folks.
