View this post on Instagram ARMPITS I’m fascinated with armpits… In my eyes, they give detailed view of shoulder integrity. When the arm is overhead, I want to still see a pit, rather than a mound. A protruding mound is the head of the humerus bone poking out a bit. This gives me information about the integrity of one’s rotator cuff. After all, the rotator cuff is there to keep the ball in the socket. In this sequence of videos, we see Kara’s shoulder lose integrity while holding a 4lb ball overhead (the armpit disappears.) I position her arm in a way that challenges her rotator cuff just enough to create an armpit, then we held till failure for several sets. Over time, I want to see a smoother transition of her humeral head until her rotator cuff develops more integrity. In a sport like volleyball, I find these principles paramount and armpits (while overhead) uncommon. Lastly, the tricep also plays a lesser known role in stabilizing the shoulder by pulling it deeper into the socket — so, we challenged the tricep with a stable elbow (to act as a fulcrum) and help stabilize the shoulder with a slightly different stressor. The last few images are examples of some better armpits and one that’s not as good. I’ll let you guess which one it is. #apiros A post shared by Austin Einhorn (@apiros.team) on Aug 26, 2020 at 12:48pm PDT
