View this post on Instagram @mvmnt_gym Ryan Egan was (I think) the first person to draw my attention to how more people than you’d think have an unconscious link between knee flexion and hip flexion. . . When doing a #functionalrangeassessment (FRA) on someone, with them lying facedown, even passively bending the knee results in flexing of the hip. . . At the time I was like omg holy crap! . . So as I was walking maggie I played with butt kickers while walking. And my thoughts turned to wow this is hard to impossible to keep forward motion without hip flexion, which brought me to how often would we ever need to flex the knee minus hip flexion? Certainly not as often as we needed to even in a walking society that didn’t sit as much as we do now. . . I’m all for being able to do all the things just so I have more options to #doanything, including bending my knee sans hip flexion or lumbar engagement, which is also often common, but I’m wondering if it’s a “problem” or should even be a surprise. Or is my gait abhorrent? . . Q: do we need knee flexion minus hip flexion and how often do we? . . #mobility #walking #gait A post shared by Samantha Faulhaber (@samanthaliftsyouup) on Dec 30, 2018 at 12:38pm PST
