Day 151/365 of #move365challenge ——————————— I’m in Ohio today for work so the hotel gym has the typical fare of overpriced machinery so I always come prepared…with tennis balls! (ps. Always bring rings along too!) Paradiddle! This time with your feet. Maybe paradiddle is a leap for you right now. Work on one foot and then alternate between feet at first. Then challenge yourself with the paradiddle! Death to hotel gyms! ———————————— Go check out @notfromcolorado as he teaches you the dragon squat. Every second dribble, bounce the ball in the opposite hand and catch it with that same hand. Day 77/365 of #move365challenge Monkey see. Monkey do. I saw @andresvesga and @chrisjespinal working on this dribble challenge yesterday at @republicofmovement and thought this might be an easy task for me to pickup with my love for basketball. No no no. How wrong I am. There is so much to work on here. Ball weight. Timing. Rhythm. Association with texture of the ball. How much air and ‘bounciness’ each ball has. Relaxation and tension. Day 171/365 of #move365challenge ———————————— Funny how life can come around on you. The big circle of it all. Last night at @chrisjespinal class at @republicofmovement we worked on some ipsi (same) and contra (opposite) tennis ball bounce with a staggered stance. Ipsi bounce with right hand means right foot forward. Contra bounce with right hand means left foot forward. I used to work drills like this on this exact same piece of concrete when I was a little kid with dreams of basketball glory. Now I bounce around the room for other reasons but I’m reminded how much ball sports had a place in shaping me in my earlier days.
