Fun is embedded within the word ‘fundamentals’.
You want to have more fun? Master the fundamentals. Practise the fundamentals relentlessly. Over and over again.
You can’t get to be a Da Vinci if you didn’t start off learning the basics of form, shape and colour.
I gained depth in my practice over hours on the mat. I always told myself to strive for deep understanding over athleticism. Why? Athleticism can be more readily built than knowledge. If you hate sitting with yourself and racking your brain over how much more do you need to embody the technique…you will fall short at some point.
Is your athleticism the reason why you express the technique so well? Can you do the same without superior tempo? What would be a replacement for a situation where energy is more sparse? I spend a lot of time asking myself these types of questions.
Will it suck at the beginning? Most likely. Will you get to somewhere great? Eventually. 😉
Knowledge acquisition isn’t linear either. There’s the learning and THEN there’s the integrating.
Long story short?
Dig deeper. Keep going. 🪐
